When was the first time you heard the term” Supermom”? Do you remember? Not a long time ago that we started being familiar with this term in talk shows, all over social media and in ads.
But, What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the term”Supermom”? Well, most of us will think that she is the superhero of the family, the cook, the driver, the caregiver, the teacher, the maid, the nurse, the consultant, and so many other things too, right? I think we forgot a very important one, that she has to be working too! Even among moms, they consider a working mother is better than a stay at home mother, because she is doing something extra and hard, besides the daily chores of the stay at home mom and this can be attributed to the society that is giving her more credit and thumbs up than the stay at home mom, even if they pretended not to do so and even if they pretended to be unbiased.
Though in the past, the same society used to put working moms in a lower status than the stay at home moms, because they were considered favoring work over their families.
So why this shift in perspective now?
Actually, this should not be the question, the real question should be, Why do we, as moms, working or not, succumb to these views? Why can’t a working mother just be left alone, doing what she loves and wants or maybe needs. Why should she justify her self ,not to the society, but to herself. Why should she feel that she isn’t giving her best to her family. On the other hand, Why can’t the stay at home mom enjoy that choice? why should she be bullied all through social media and the internet by articles claiming that she neglected her self and her career and that children of working mothers are better and more successful than those of a stay at home one?
Moms, you know what is better for your families. You know what is better for you. We know that you compromise all the time, but just be happy and accepting to this compromise not blaming and torturing yourself about it. Moms should never be put in comparison to one another. You are all amazing, and You are all doing the best and the hardest job in the world…raising the future generations.
There are no supermoms…there are only Moms.
